The process of asking someone to record every person, place, and item that appears in their dreams, in an effort to discover thinking patterns that will explain their behaviors. Depending on one’s view, and Freud certainly had an elaborate set of ideas about dreams, the symbols in dreams represent wishes, fears, or hidden thoughts.
