Clarifying the Mindfulness Muddle: A Response to Wilson and Gearity’s Book review of Three Popular Mindfulness Interventions

We were all initially thrilled to see the book review by Wilson and Gearity
comparing our approaches (the Mindfulness-Acceptance- Commitment [MAC] approach – Gardner & Moore, 2007; Mindfulness Meditation Training in Sport [MMTS] – Baltzell & Summers, 2018; Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement [MSPE] – Kaufman et al., 2018). However, this worthwhile endeavor contained factual errors about each program, as well as their underlying theories and histories. As such, the objective of this response is to present information to help readers gain a more accurate understanding of these interventions, which hopefully will allow them to be
used more effectively in sport and performance psychology.
