Grant Farred’s In Motion, At Rest theorizes “the event” through the lens of sport, and makes the argument that understanding the event in this way allows for a new understanding of “the event” as a philosophical problem. Specifically, In Motion, At Rest explores three now infamous sporting events involving male athletes Ron Artest, Eric Cantona, and Zinedine Zidane, and Farred draws upon the philosophical work of Alain Badiou, Gilles Deleuze and Jacques Derrida to make his unique contribution to the conceptualization of “the event.”
