Book Review: A Companion to Sport

In A Companion to Sport, Andrews and Carrington seek ‘to encourage students…to develop a more critical approach that strikes a delicate balance between taking sports seriously as an important cultural and social phenomenon in their own right, whilst trying to locate “linkages” and interconnections to the wider social structures and forces that give sport its meaning and significance’ (pp. 7–8). Broadly speaking, this collection achieves this goal and is a satisfying addition to the editors’ long advocacy for a cultural studies approach when analysing sport. (PUBLICATION ABSTRACT)
